Bestselling business author and social entrepreneur, Robert Ashton, has launched a new website which seeks out community activists and encourages them to come forward to nominate themselves as case studies for his new book.
The book, which will be published around September of next year by the Directory of Social Change, will be titled ‘Garden Shed Guerilla’ and will feature 50 ordinary people who decided to get up off their sofas and lead change within their community. The book will be practical not political. It will tell the story of each of those featured, then list the key points to help you lead change too.
Hot topics addressed by this book include (but not limited to!):
-
Localism – how people can organise themselves and take control;
-
Planning reform – how everyone can be heard, not just the vocal;
-
Unemployment – how people created their own jobs, on their own terms;
-
Health – how disenchanted public sector workers took over their organisations;
-
Crime – how ex offenders found new ways to earn a living;
-
Education – how teachers opted out to create the school they knew was wanted;
-
Energy – how communities clubbed together to generate green energy for themselves;
-
Rural – how villagers set up their own shops and pubs.
