National Centre for Writing

The National Centre for Writing, based in the medieval Dragon Hall on King St, celebrates and explores the artistic and social power of creative writing and literary translation. Our on-going programme of innovative collaborations engages writers, literary translators and readers, in person and online, in projects that support new voices and new stories, and respond to the rapidly changing world of writing.
In 2018 an extensive renovation project and the construction of the south wing to our home Dragon Hall was completed. The new south wing offers a purpose built, light and airy space primarily dedicated to projects for school children and young people. We work with hundreds of schools every year to support a life-long love of writing, ideas and books.
We support writers at all stages in their careers, providing workshops, mentoring and a wide range of professional development days, both face-to-face and online. We celebrate the best writing talent from around the world here in Norwich, England’s first UNESCO City of Literature. Projects range from major international partnerships to vibrant festivals such as the Noirwich Crime Writing Festival and the City of Literature strand at Norfolk & Norwich Festival.
Dragon Hall is available to hire for corporate events, weddings and parties. It is a wonderfully flexible space which includes the oak-beamed Great Hall, a glass-fronted gallery and lots of rooms for break-out groups, plus a private garden.
