Welcome to our first Funding/Investor Readiness Spotlight session of 2021 - Ethical investment - raising funds in the Sustainability sector

The world continues to face increasing challenges from social inequality and climate change. There is growing importance and availability of sustainable finance options to address these challenges. And lead to a better quality of life for all. This session will explore these options with insights from a panel of experts in this area including;

Nick Lyth - CEO of Green Angel Syndicate,

Nick founded Green Angel Syndicate in 2013 as an experiment to fight climate change and global warming, with ten members, and two company investments. It now has more than 220 members, 24 companies in its portfolio, and is currently UK Angel Syndicate of the Year. Green Angel Syndicate is the only angel investment syndicate in the UK specialising in the fight against Climate Change and Global Warming.

Leah Waterhouse - Lombard, Green Energy Specialist

Leah is a Director at Lombard who works to support both new and existing Lombard customers looking to become more sustainable and transition towards the lower carbon economy. This includes new lending for renewable assets as well as looking holistically at how the business can become more sustainable through behavioural and cultural change. Leah has long been passionate about climate change with 5 years of experience in climate related roles and is keen that individuals consider asset finance as a possible funding route for sustainable finance.

Juliet Davenport - Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Good Energy

Good Energy is a renewable energy company with a mission to power a greener, cleaner future together with its customers Juliet has been an innovator for over 20 years, working on ideas to fight climate change and transform the energy sector for the better. In 2013, she was awarded an OBE for services to renewables. She currently sits on the board of the Renewable Energy Association and Innovate UK. Juliet is Vice President of the Energy Institute and in July 2020 she was appointed as a new board member of The Crown Estate. In addition, she sits on the advisory boards of leading UK think tanks, including Energy Systems Catapult, Aurora, Oxford Energy, and LSE’s Grantham Institute.

The panel will discuss a wide range of topics including:

1. Their views on the current market for raising funds in this sector

2. How to position your company appropriately for this type of financing

3. Opportunities for all businesses to improve their sustainability and finance options to do so

Sustainable Finance will play a key role in ensuring the necessary capital to deliver ambitions enshrined in policy and to ensure our ethical desires for the future are met.

There will be the ability to ask questions. And we look forward to delving deeper into the sustainability sector.
